Several states have legalized sports betting
Several states have legalized sports betting online. Despite the controversies surrounding this issue, there are several states that have legalized online betting. In Nevada, sports betting is legal and a handful of other states have passed similar bills. While the federal government has not endorsed legalization of sports betting, some states have favored it. Listed below are the top states where legalized sports betting is legal.
Georgia is one state that has not yet legalized sports betting online, despite strong anti-gambling sentiment. The state’s Republican senators have opposed the bill, so legalization there may be difficult to achieve. However, the state’s sports teams have voiced their support. However, the anti-gambling sentiment in Georgia may not make legalizing sports betting in the statehouse a possibility. Hawaii is another state that has not legalized sports betting, but is trying to do so. Its proposed law will require fewer votes and may withstand legal challenges.
Rhode Island became the eighth state to legalize sports betting in 2018. A year after the Supreme Court struck down PARSA, the state passed legislation to allow sports betting online. The law will allow sports betting on mobile devices and in retail locations by the summer of 2020. Meanwhile, South Carolina is working to legalize sports betting. Though lawmakers haven’t set a deadline for passing the law, if approved, the bill will also allow for mobile betting.
In September 2016, Nevada was the first state to legalize sports betting online. The state has four casinos and a retail sports book that offers sports betting. In January 2022, six major betting sites entered the state, and another seven sites are expected to open in the state.
